Brick fireplaces are highly durable, low in porosity, high in compressive strength and extremely affordable. Making thin and elegant joints, the bricks in the fireplaces are so joined together that they create a smooth surface. They delightfully enhance the look of the rooms and resist absorption of grease or oils, and smoky soot. The fireplaces may use special shaped and decorative bricks. Almost anything can be fashioned in clay and incorporated into or onto bricks to create a decorative effect with various imaginative images in brick.
The brick fireplaces are easy to maintain. They can be washed with a solution of warm water and washing power containing trisodium phosphate. If a stronger treatment is needed, commercial products designed for cleaning fireplaces can be used. These commercial products are designed to remove grime, grease, smoke, soot and discoloration.
