Fireplace
Andirons are a pair of metal supports used for holding up logs in a
fireplace and add beauty as well as functionality. Andirons are used in
place of fireplace grates or as in addition to fireplace grates. They
help to keep logs from falling out of the fire onto the hearth or floor.
They are made for use with wood (long shank) and for use with gas logs
(short shank). The short shank allows the andirons to sit in front of
the gas log set for a most realistic look. The fireplace andirons can be manufactured using various casting and finishing methods. Polished and lacquered brass, iron, copper and wood is generally used in the construction of fireplace andirons. Adding timeless character to any decorating scheme, the andirons can also be made to exacting specifications of the individual buyers. The variety of designs in which they are made, is reminiscent of the great skills of the craftsmen. The style of finer proportions and graceful lines of the andirons make them suitable for all kinds of fireplaces.
